About the Artist

Kennedy, a Cinnaminson, N.J., resident who earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in visual arts with concentration in painting from the Mason Gross School of the Arts in December 2023, discusses her Fulbright project, what drew her to the arts and the Swedish custom known as fika.

"I create landscape ink drawings from observation. My process is broken down into two steps. First, I sketch quick studies, often in plein air, to outline a composition and patterning technique I will use to create a larger drawing. I then use these studies as references in my studio while I am creating my larger drawings. These final ink drawings are detailed landscape compositions created from a series of intricate markings.

The tiny markings that make up my drawings are extremely detailed, repetitive, and time consuming. While I am in my studio, I tend to get into a meditative flow while creating my work. This flow mirrors the meditative state I feel in nature while I am sketching my initial studies. I am eager for my viewers to see the concentration and attentiveness I put into my drawings, because finding a meditative state within nature can be a universal practice. Furthermore, I am interested in the unpretentious accessibility nature offers as a subject for both the artist and viewer."
